Aidan Mc Anespie poem written by Paddy O' Grady, Dublin. |

In Memory of Aidan
Its a well known fact that we all must die
and those we leave will mourn and cry
But when death comes at an early age
Our sorrow turns to a bitter rage
That's how it was in Aughnacloy
When the British army shot dead a boy
Whose only crime was the game he played
Now in Clara graveyard his body is laid
Young Aidan Mc Anespie was a Gaelic star
His skills were known for near and far
He played the game of the 32
To the sport and freedom he was loyal and true
It was on September the 21
That a peaceful boy heard a gunshot burst
He left a troubled land for eternal peace
Now he prays that soon the war will cease
The Anglo Irish agreement failed
No justice done for those betrayed
The murderer he was punished not
For the life he claimed with a single shot
But we pray to God that the day'll come soon
While shines the sun or shines the moon
That the occupiers turn on their heels
And return to us our Six green fields.
